Moor hounds, please

Highbullen Hotel, Golf and Country Club, one of those sprawling, luxurious estates that dot the North Devon countryside, is about to “get tails wagging” with a package for dog owners.

The “Highbullen Hounds” package is available now and will apparently “pamper the pooch as much as the owner”. For £299 for two nights with two people and one dog (extra dogs are £25), sharing one of the hotel’s four dog-friendly rooms, you and the hound get a whole bunch of luscious treats, including a two-course doggy dinner (chicken casserole followed by sirloin steak with vegetables and jus… yes, there is jus on the dog’s menu).

You also get a dog bed, blanket and lead in the room, a doggie bag of treats and toys based on the size and breed of dog, a brush, a toy a tennis ball and waste bags. The package is available to guests staying in one of the hotel’s four dog-friendly Forester’s Rest rooms. Owners get a walking map of Exmoor, as well as two nights dinner, bed and breakfast.

As well as the rolling hills, rivers and woods all on Highbullen’s doorstep, nearby there is also the wilds of Exmoor to explore and some of the best coastal walks in the UK, along the South West Coast Path.

North Devon is a dog-walkers playground,  and many more maps are available at the hotel – with the shortest a half hour route around the hotel and village and the longest a walk on Exmoor, taking in the highest cliffs in England with views over the Bristol Channel to South Wales.
