Hotel du Vin Glasgow
One Devonshire Gardens is seen by many as the hotel that changed things forever. It is seen as the first of the new breed of reasonably priced, beautifully designed, boutique townhouse hotels. Now part of the Hotel du Vin chain, One Devonshire Gardens, set in a trendy terrace in Glasgow's fashionable West End, remains something special.
Eat: The elegance and charm of One Devonshire Gardens runs throughout the entire building and into its delightful dining room. Offering just that bit more than the average Bistro du Vin, the ODG tasting menu might as well be called the OMG menu. The food served up by executive head chef Darin Campbell is artful, but never too clever and remains rooted in local and seasonal ingredients. Dogs can join you fro meals in the Drawing room or the garden (in good weather). There is also a bar, cigar shack and whisky room.
Sleep: Again the legacy of One Devonshire Gardens is hard to shake off (and why would anyone want to) and the bedrooms, all of which are dog-friendly, are just that bit more impressive than the usual HdV. Plenty feature impressive four-posters or oversized sleigh beds and if can you find a more comfortable bed in any hotel you've done well.
Walk: Not the first place many people think of Scotland's biggest city as somewhere to go walking, but the city itself is fascinating, with an excellent cultural pedigree, while walking in the surrounding countryside, including the Clyde Valley, captures plenty of dramatic and spectacular scenery.
