New Park Manor
Once a hunting lodge for King Charles II (allegedly his favourite), New Park Manor is now a stylish and very dog-friendly 21-bedroom hotel run by the Luxury Family Hotels group. All rooms and public spaces balance respect for the heritage with a tasteful modern sensibility. As well as being slap in the middle of the New Forest, the coast is just seven miles away.
Eat: Just as it would have mattered to the King on his hunting trips, so food and drink are essential to the New Park Manor experience. And being located in the New Forest means there is no shortage of excellent local ingredients. There are two places to eat. The more relaxed Rufus Lounge offers the Forest Menu (a bistro-style menu) as well as serving an awesome cream tea and your dog is allowed to be with you as you eat. In the restaurant (where dogs aren't allowed) there is a more formal, fine dining (The Stag).
Sleep: In keeping with the spirit of the whole hotel, rooms are relaxing, comfortable and nicely designed environments with some of the New Forest's most comfortable four-poster beds. Indeed, for all the modern fixtures and fittings, opt for one of two manor deluxe bedrooms and you'll feel like old-fashioned royalty. There is a £10 a night charge for dogs, who are provided with a bed and a bowl. And resident Whippet Daisy will doubtless throw in a warm welcome.
Walk: Well, this is the New Forest, so if you can't find somewhere to walk that appeals here you may as well give up. Options are well laid out on the New Forest National Park Authority. There are also plenty of excellent beaches nearby, if you fancy some sea air.
