The Drapers Arms
The Draper's Arms is one of Islington's best-loved and longest-established gastropubs. Walking that fine line between pub and restaurant, The Drapers Arms seems able to pull off the trick of offering something that pleases all customers. Something of a chameleon venue, it seems to be whatever you want it to be. Where this might seem a flaw to some, because it derives mainly from the high standard of service, it is instead endearing.
Two essential ingredients of what makes a pub a pub (as opposed to a restaurant) is the ability to keep and serve quality beers and a nice selection of friendly regulars. The Draper's Arms excels at both. There is also a lovely peaceful courtyard garden for long summer nights with bottles of wine (from an excellent wine list) and a brilliant line-up of regular beers and guest ales, all very well handled.
The menu changes with the seasons and while taking a steer from classic fine dining always manages to serve up an enjoyable surprise. Knowledgeable, friendly staff cap things off to make this a genuinely enjoyable restaurant or pub night out. Dogs are fussed throughout the pub and water bowls and occasional treats are provided.
