The Feversham Arms Hotel
The Feversham Arms Hotel and Verbena Spa refuses to be labelled as either a country house hotel or a boutique hotel. Rather it claims to be “a luxury hideaway designed to help guests relax and indulge themselves.” Which sounds reasonable enough. What it really is, however, is a former coaching inn in a traditional Yorkshire market town. Over the years the Feversham Arms Hotel has grown, as successive owners have acquired extra properties and expanded the venture to include the now well-established Verbena Spa, the perfect place to relax after a hard day's walking.
Sleep: Most of the bedrooms are available for dog owners, other than the very best luxury spa suites. Although the hotel doesn’t offer any extras for dogs (beds or bowls) it is also doesn't charge extra.
Eat: Dogs are allowed in all parts of the hotel apart from the restaurant and the spa. The restaurant offers a fantastic take on what might be billed modern Yorkshire cooking, so fresh and locally sourced are many of the ingredients. The hotel staff do their most to emphasise the importance of offering high quality food and drink and every meal, whether its breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, is considered important. Sadly there isn’t really anywhere for you to eat with your dog, other than via room service in your room, so to make the most of the meals you’d have to knacker your dog out in the extravagant local countryside and leave them behind in the room.
Walk: Tiring out yourself and your dog should be quite easy up here. There's no shortage of excellent walking nearby, with the North York Moors close by and the magnificent Castle Howard is worth a visit. The impressive ruins of Byland Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey are also good for a day out.
