The Wizard is the sort of pub that pulls off the trick of managing to offer something for everyone without ever playing things safe or veering into the bland. A fine selection of well-kept beers and ales (not to mention a great old-fashioned pub garden) and a menu of classic sandwiches at lunchtime all testify to its roots as a traditional pub, while a decent wine list and some near-fine dining standards make it a great place for a night out. Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside and in the garden, as long as they are on the lead.
The pub is a just the shortest of hops from Alderley Edge, a natural escarpment managed and maintained beautifully by the National Trust, which offers plenty of great walking and some spectacular across the plain to Manchester. There's also a tea shop next door offering exactly what you want a tea shop to offer.
