Watergate Bay Hotel
Watergate Bay is one of the UK's great dog-friendly beaches. Two miles of wide, sandy playground, myriad food joints and best of all it's open to dogs all year round (as are plenty of North Cornwall's other beaches). Located right on the beach, The Watergate Bay Hotel offers a slice of contemporary luxury and comfort right in the heart of the action.
Eat: This is one of the UK's strange foodie hotspots. Who knows why? And who cares? Just kick back and enjoy a host of great places to eat, including Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, next door. Under the expert eye of executive chef Neil Haydock, the hotel offers everything from fine dining in the formal Dining room through to proper beachside burgers at The Beach Hut. There's also a fabulous, comfy lounge bar called The Living Space, with a superlative terrace. Dogs are allowed to join you for meals in The Beach Hut and The Living Space.
Sleep: Dogs are allowed to stay in the ground and first floor Ocean Wing rooms and all the rooms in the Coach House. All the rooms offer the same high-quality take on beach house chic. If you can stretch take a slightly bigger room. You'll be charged an extra £15 a night for your dog (£5 a night for a second dog, two being the maximum per room). On arrival you'll be handed a copy of the hotel's "dog-owners' protocol". Copies are also available in advance.
Walk: Pull open the blinds and take a look. You don't have to go far to find somewhere to go for a memorable walk. Should you get bored of the bay, hit the South West Coast Path and go find yourself another one. There's also a nice circular inland walk from the hotel.
